Famagusta
Vast areas of Famagusta remain relatively uninhabited due to the unresolved Cypriot conflict and due to Turkish military control. These areas have developed a distinct habitat during the last 41 years of solitude, turning into urban forests and lakes with peculiar species. Part of these areas is the fenced-off area of Varosha.
